I like to try to stay on top of security that is going on with technology. I have a concern for this, because of the field we are in which is hosting services provider for social networking. Though our clients are small potatoes compared to twitter and facebook, just to know that these sites who have the funds for advanced security measures are being attacked, does raise a concern.
Facebook seems to have been attacked with hundreds of thousands of pornographic photos and obscenities, though denial at this juncture is what position they are taking, there is no controlling how these sites get compromised. You cannot think of every whimsical ludicrous probe that one may take when trying to thwart security which is in place. We all know that just as technology is stale when its released to the public, same goes for security. The internet reminds me of an old creekity house, that has been around for centuries, and sports a thatched roof, just as you patch one leak in the roof, a downpour comes and again, you are finding yourself trying to stay dry. Likewise is the internet, as soon as one security hole has been patched, there are hundreds of others that are likely to present a problem.
The script kiddies and glory seekers do not stop, and where this raises the concern for us, is because we do not have the high tech security budget that facebook or twitter would have, thus something of this magnitude could be crippling for small businesses.
